POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for an Armourer to join our Training and Development Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau.  Reporting to the Staff Sergeant, Operational Skills Section, the incumbent will perform specialized technical work in firearms inspection, maintenance and repair. Responsibilities include servicing and testing a variety of firearms, weapons and related inventory, and completing related clerical work. Work is performed in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Services a variety of firearms, weapons and related inventory. 
  • Diagnoses and repairs related mechanical issues.
  • Inspects and tests inventory of firearms.
  • Schedules maintenance based on prescribed recommendations and guidelines.
  • Maintains inventory of firearms and related inventory.
  • Performs repairs to reloading equipment and firearms.
  • Completes destruction of related inventory in accordance with policy.
  • Provides recommendations, information and direction to staff and internal/external stakeholders. 
  • Develops and maintains records, files and documentation.
  • Provides expert court evidence as needed. 
  • Performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of the grade 12, supplemented by a related certification.
  • Five years of related experience including firearms maintenance and repair and armourer experience with Glock and Colt platforms. 
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered. 
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

  • The salary range is $34.75/hour - $37.91/hour (pay grade 18) based on 2024 rates.
