Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Regular Full-Time Clerk 2 – Information Services to join our Information Management & Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Records Team Manager, the incumbent Performs entry level clerical work including repetitive tasks of limited complexity. Work may include gathering information, processing documents at a routine level, and performing various office duties.

 

Key responsibilities include preparing correspondence, answering public inquiries, operating office equipment, and assisting staff with various tasks. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of working both independently and within a team. Strong communication and time management skills, accurate keyboarding abilities (minimum 40 wpm), and a commitment to confidentiality are essential.

 

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 7:00 to 15:00. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Organizes and manages office records, including files, reports, invoices, and requisitions.
  • Prepares, processes and formats documents, forms, letters and other routine correspondence.
  • Handles incoming and outgoing correspondence, including opening, distributing, and filing documents.
  • Performs mathematical calculations manually and/or using digital tools.
  • Performs data collection and entry.
  • Provides information to the public and others concerning departmental rules and regulations, referring complex or unusual problems to a supervisor.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment.
  • Uses relevant software and applications.
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties.
  • Performs related duties as required.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to understand and effectively follow both oral and written instruction.
  • Demonstrates some independence in decision making while performing tasks.
  • Capability to maintain records and perform mathematical calculations accurately.
  • Proficiency in creating, processing, and formatting various forms, letters, and routine correspondence.
  • Knowledge of department’s operation, procedures and safety regulations.
  • Ability to provide accurate information.
  • Possesses good interpersonal and public relation skills.
  • Ability to use relevant work related software and applications.
  • Understanding of Surrey Police Service (SPS) policies, procedures and standards.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the relevant level of security clearance throughout employment with SPS.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by courses in office administration or other related courses.
  • A minimum 1-year experience in an office environment.
  • A minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute is required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police clearance throughout their employment with SPS. This role also requires RCMP Reliability Status (security clearance).

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is $28.43/hour - $30.12/hour (pay grade 009) based on 2024 rates.
