Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Clerk 3 – Court Services (Auxiliary) to join our Information Management & Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Court Services Manager, the incumbents will provide administrative and clerical support to ensure the efficient operation of court services and related departmental functions. The Clerk 3 will support staff, assist the public, and contribute to the smooth delivery of services across the department. Additional related duties are performed in support of organizational operations.

 

Schedule / Hours of Work

To be eligible for this auxiliary position, incumbents must have flexible availability and should be able to commit to aminimum of three (3) shifts per month once training is complete. Shifts may include weekdays, evenings, weekends and holidays but hours typically fall within standard operational business hours. Assigned shifts may be prescheduled or by call-in. The anticipated work schedule for the base temporary part-time position is 35 hours a week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares and formats a variety of legal documents, reports, and correspondence.
  • Accurately prepares and maintains records, files, and court-related documents according to established procedures
  • Prepares and assists in organizing and assigning classifications or numerical designations to documents, records, and plans.
  • Handles records, including data collection, maintenance, reconciliation, and balancing.
  • Operates a variety of office equipment and uses relevant software applications.
  • Provides information to resolve inquiries and complaints for the public and staff.
  • Provides advice and guidance to staff on new procedures and atypical issues.
  • Explains departmental regulations and procedures.
  • Assists other staff in their duties as needed.
  • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by several courses in word processing, office practices and computer applications.
  • Minimum two years experience and training in an office environment.
  • Must have accurate typing speed of 40 wpm.
  • This position requires both SPS Security Clearance and RCMP Reliability Status. All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is $30.12 to $31.97 per hour (pay grade 012) based on 2024 rates.
