Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

While Surrey Police Service (SPS) has assumed overarching responsibility for policing in the City of Surrey, the RCMP will continue to provide policing services in Surrey through the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit until the transition has been completed. SPS is currently hiring a Clerk 3 – Watch Clerk (Temporary, Full Time) to work as a designated resource to the RCMP in Surrey. While the successful candidate will be employed by SPS, they will be dedicated to support the RCMP Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit. Currently, the position is scheduled run for up to 18 months (approximately). The duration of the term may be shortened or extended based on operational needs.

The incumbent provides critical operational, administrative, and technical support. This role assists officers both in the field and at the detachment through telephone, radio communications, and in-person interactions. Key responsibilities include managing operational files within the PRIME system, ensuring quality assurance and statistical reporting, and handling various administrative queues. The Clerk 3 - Watch Clerk (Dedicated Support to the RCMP) records and processes public complaints, conducts research, and ensures CPIC entries comply with policy. Additional duties include maintaining records, managing office supplies, processing reports, and operating police radio communications.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is the day shift. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares word processed reports.
  • Files and keeps records.
  • Checks, balances, and maintains accounts and other records.
  • Prepares and assists in assigning classifications or numerical designations to files, records, plans and related documents.
  • Prepares and posts schedules, sign up notices and charts.
  • Posts, maintains, reconciles, and balances records not requiring special accounting techniques.
  • Collects and inputs data.
  • Operates office equipment, such as PC’s, word processors, photocopiers, and fax machines.
  • Provides information to others, traces errors, corrects deviations from policy and answers inquiries and complaints from the public and staff.
  • Advises subordinates on new or revised procedures and unusual problems.
  • Explains division regulations and procedures.
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties.
  • Performs related duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by several courses in word processing, office practices and computer applications.
  • Minimum two years experience and training in an office environment.
  • Must have accurate typing speed of 45 wpm.
  • This position requires both SPS Security Clearance and RCMP Reliability Status. All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

  • The salary range for this position is $30.12/hr to $31.97/hr (pay grade 12) based on 2024 Rates.
