Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Communications Coordinator (Regular, Full Time) to join our Communications Section, within the Office of Chief Constable. Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager, the incumbent coordinates and writes communication materials in a variety of formats with a focus on writing for social media and web. This position will also support writing for digital marketing materials and advertisements, and  will help ensure consistency of communications and adherence to SPS policies and procedures. They will exercise judgment and take initiative within established guidelines under general direction.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday to Friday, from 8:00 am – 4:00 pm. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plans, researches, writes, and publishes engaging content for SPS’s social media platforms and websites, as well as other communication materials.
  • Monitors all SPS social media platforms and provides appropriate engagement with others online.
  • Works collaboratively on communications projects that involve web, social media, and digital -communication tools such as Hootsuite, Google Analytics, Google Adwords and others.
  • Liaises with internal and external contacts in coordinating communications for posting.
  • Liaises with employees to ensure communications are current, solicits updated material and advises on new requests.
  • Works collaboratively with others to develop social media campaigns that are aligned with SPS’s goals, values, and brand.
  • Ensures approval process is maintained for distribution and release of communications as required.
  • Reviews communications to ensure consistency across platforms.
  • Coordinates appropriate translation services for various communications.
  • Provides timely follow-up on the posting, updating and removal of communications.
  • Assists with coordination of internal and external marketing activities as required.
  • Prepares and maintains all files and documentation related to the work.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to employees as required.
  • Stays up-to-date with current technologies and trends in social media, web, and related applications
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties. Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12
  • A diploma in Communications or a related field from a recognized post-secondary institution
  • A minimum of three years related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid BC Driver’s license, clear driving record.
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is $35.71/hour - $38.98/hour (pay grade 19) based on 2024 rates.
