POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a three (3) regular full-time Crime Analyst 1 to join our Specialized Operations Division, within the Investigative Services Bureau. The incumbent reports the Crime Intelligence Manager and is responsible for specialized work involving the application of research techniques to support moderately complex criminal investigative activities, operational programs, and crime reduction strategies. The incumbent provides intelligence information, crime analysis services, supports the intelligence process and assists in providing conclusions and recommendations. Some independence of judgment is exercised.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 37.5 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collects, assembles and reviews investigative and intelligence data to support ongoing investigations.

Conducts data searches to identify and assemble correlating data, trends, and patterns.

  • Provides crime analysis services including but not limited to conducting a preliminary assessment, proposing
  • methodology and data collection.
  • Reviews and monitors police occurrence files and persons of interests.
  • Prepares written documentation including but not limited to profile packages, suspects lists, maps, and narrative and statistical reports.
  • Prepares tables, graphs, charts, and presentation materials.
  • Evaluates and validates data.
  • Prepares and maintains comprehensive files, records, and documentation.
  • Establishes and maintains working relationships with investigators, civilian members and external agencies.
  • Attends project team and information meetings, and workshops.
  • Assists in the design and planning of projects.
  • Prepares recommendations to address identified problems and trends.
  • Delivers presentations, briefings, and situation reports in relation to the work.
  • Produces ad-hoc reports for management as required.
  • Updates and maintains databases, spreadsheets, and related tracking systems.
  • Updates and maintains project plans, statistics, metrics, and other communication tools.
  • Keeps abreast of new techniques, software applications and developments in the field of crime analysis.
  • Operates various Surrey Police Service (SPS) operational computer systems.
  • Provides court testimony as required.
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as required

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of a university degree in a related discipline including coursework in applied research and statistics and related analytics training program.
  • Minimum of two years related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police clearance throughout their employment with SPS. This role also requires RCMP Reliability Status (security clearance).

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is $43.77/hour - $49.52/hour (pay grade 25C) based on 2025 reclassification rates.
