POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Cybersecurity Analyst 3 to join our Information Technology Section, within the Corporate Services Bureau. The Cybersecurity Analyst 3 is a senior technical position responsible for the development and design of security architect and governance. The successful candidate will be part of the team responsible for a variety of cyber security functions including but not limited to maintaining and updating firewall rules; managing intrusion prevention systems; configuration of anti-virus engine policies and register malware; configuration of VPN tunnels and remote access rules; and triaging of Advanced Threat Detection (ATD) alerts and tune detection rules.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates in the development of cyber security standards and conducts enterprise-wide health checks.
  • Conducts ongoing compliance assessments.
  • Provides cyber security consultation and develops security test cases.
  • Develops and implements risk mitigation plans.
  • Manages and maintains web content filter rulesets.
  • Conducts vulnerability scanning for PCI and internet facing systems.
  • Participates in cyber security investigations and activities related to the response protocols.
  • Performs cyber security forensic activities as required.
  • Develops cyber security awareness campaign presentations, associated materials and online training to Surrey Police Service staff.
  • Conducts baseline assessments on cyber security.
  • May be required to supervise junior staff.
  • Performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of security architecture and cybersecurity standards.
  • Knowledge of antivirus, instrumented protection system, and firewalls configuration.
  • Knowledge of email, web, and cloud security.
  • Knowledge of identity and access management.
  • Knowledge of public key infrastructure, encryption, and tokenization.
  • Knowledge of vulnerability scanning and penetration testing.
  • Knowledge of security threat, risk assessment, and threat modeling.
  • Knowledge of wired and wireless network access control, and industrial controls security.
  • Knowledge of PCI compliance and micro segmentation.
  • Knowledge of mobile security and mobile device management.
  • Knowledge of security event and incident management.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to supervise junior staff.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems plus six years of cyber security experience or,
  • Diploma in computer science or information systems plus eight years of cyber security experience.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) or equivalent security certification.
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.

  • The salary range is $60.82/hour - $68.79/hour (pay grade 33) based on 2024 rates.
