On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst 2 to join the Data Analysis Unit, within the Office of the Chief Constable. In this role, the incumbent will provide high quality data analytics services to support evidence-based decision making across the organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for translating large volumes of business data such as business-related figures, market research, logistics, and transportation costs and more into clear, accessible language for non-information technology users in the form of reports or interactive dashboards. They will gather and interpret operational data using statistical techniques to examine past performance, identify trends and patterns, and deliver reports to enhance business decision making capability in business planning, process improvement, and solution assessment.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours a week during standard operating hours. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes exploratory data analysis, confirmatory data analysis and/or qualitative analysis as required.
- Recommends actions for future developments and strategic business opportunities, as well as enhancements to operational policies.
- Interprets data, analyzes results using statistical techniques and provides ongoing and adhoc reports.
- Uses databases, data collection systems, data analytics and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and quality.
- Acquires data from primary or secondary sources to analyze data for statistical analysis.
- Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.
- Filters and cleans data by reviewing computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate and correct code problems.
- Works with others to prioritize business and information needs.
- Locates and defines new process improvement opportunities.
- Provides strategic tactical support to the organization by analyzing and interpreting the data to provide creative solutions.
- Performs complex data analysis with regard to client requests and develops rules and methodologies for effective data management.
- Analyzes data with standard statistical methods, interprets the results, and provides written summary of data analyses.
- Works with others to design and develop statistical analyses which address projected research questions.
- Participates in ongoing decisions concerning data collections, study design, methodology, and data analysis.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of statistical analysis methods, statistical methodologies and analytical techniques.
- Ability to turn business questions and requirements into data insights for informed decision-making.
- Ability to estimate numerical data to support analysis and reporting.
- Ability to demonstrate initiative, sound judgment, and resourcefulness when addressing analytical tasks.
- Ability to clearly present ideas and findings and translate data into understandable reports, documents and dashboards for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to think critically and analyze numbers, trends, and data to draw clear, evidence-based conclusions.
- Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written format.
- Ability to work in a collaborative and cooperative environment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration, statistics, marketing, or a related field
- Three years of related experience including,
- experience in the use of modern statistical, analytical, and business intelligence tools (e.g. SPSS, Cognos, Business Objects, MicroStrategy, Tableau, Qlikview),
- experience in the use of at least one data programming language (e.g. SAS, R, Python, SQL) to build client analysis solutions, and
- experience in using statistical packages for analyzing datasets (e.g. Excel, SPSS, SAS).
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.

- The salary range is $47.52/hour - $53.84/hour (pay grade 27) based on 2024 rates.
