POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Database Analyst 2 to join our Information Management and Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Application Services Manager, the Database Analyst 2 is responsible for standards and design of physical database storage, maintenance, access, and security administration. The successful candidate will optimize database access and allocates database resources for optimum configuration and performance. The incumbent will also support multiple services and multiple databases of medium to high complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility of data.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs backup and recovery configuring database parameters and prototype designs against logical data models and defines data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements.
- Implements, integrates, and supports relational and multidimensional databases including all aspects of the database environment, such as database and dictionary maintenance, software installation, tuning and performance monitoring, organization, protection, security, scheduling, documentation, backup and recovery, capacity analysis, disaster recovery, monitoring standards and procedures and integration of systems through database design.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of databases, creation of data models for the organization including entity relationship diagrams, identification, and creation of application-specific user views of the data, along with logical access to the various data elements.
- Defines and implements data standards as well as data-naming conventions for corporate data.
- Supports the budgeting process by estimating resources required for project phases.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure as a whole as well as IT security issues.
- Knowledge of one or more complex essential IT infrastructure components (e.g., relational database system, network operating system, wide area network)
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to present technical information in an understandable way.
- Ability to apply a work around, improvise, or conduct a root cause analysis.
- Ability to anticipate problems, analyse situations, identify resolutions, and make recommendations.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
- Two years related experience.
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.

- The salary range is $47.52/hr - $53.84/hr (pay grade 27) based on 2024 rates.
