POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for two (2) Regular Full-Time Digital Evidence Technician to join our Specialized Operations Division, within the Investigative Services Bureau. Reporting to the Sergeant, Digital Forensics Team, the incumbent is responsible for extracting a variety of complex data from computer hard drives, phones, tablets and other data storage devices using regular and advanced equipment/tools. The incumbent also provides follow up and recommendations in regard to complex investigations and evidence, and provides related support. Work is completed under limited supervision and considerable independence of judgment and action is exercised within specified guidelines
Schedule / Hours of Work
This is an on-site position and the anticipated schedule for this position is 37.5 hours per week, within a compressed schedule. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Handles a variety of digital media related to criminal cases, complex investigations and evidence.
- Extracts data including but not limited to documents, photos, SMS conversations, messenger information and emails using regular and advanced equipment/tools.
- Prepares detailed observation reports, statistics and documentation related to the work.
- Acts as subject matter expert and provides complex technical advice and information.
- Updates and maintains a variety of forensic equipment, tools and software.
- Liaises with, responds to and provides information to internal and external parties.
- Updates and maintains comprehensive data records and reports.
- Provides recommendations and detailed suggestions for follow up related to investigations and evidence.
- Keeps up to date on elements of offences and case law related to the work.
- Provides court testimony as required.
- Attends and participates in investigation meetings related to the work.
- Attends crime scenes with officials to obtain a variety of technological devices and data.
- Assists other staff in performing their duties.
- Develops training materials and delivers training to members and staff in relation to the work.
- Performs related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
- Diploma in a computer technology or a related program from a recognized post secondary institution.
- Enhanced Digital Field Technician certification.
- A minimum of three years of related experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

- The salary range is $39.36/hour - $44.32/hour (pay grade 24B) based on 2024 rates.
