POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for two (2) Forensic Video Analysts to join our Specialized Operations Division, within the Investigative Services Bureau. Reporting to the Sergeant, Investigative Support Unit, the incumbent performs specialized technical work utilizing video technology and techniques to identify suspects and to prepare and present evidence for use in court. The Forensic Video Analyst has thorough knowledge of related computer programs, video equipment and relevant police work.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Receives, reviews and analyzes videotapes from various sources, and of differing quality, to be used to assist in the identification and apprehension of criminal suspects.
  • Selects tape segments and utilizes technology to digitally enhance images and prepare materials to increase the likelihood of identifying potential suspects.
  • Prepares and maintains all files and documentation prescribed by departmental policies.
  • Safeguards all materials and ensures all documents relating to a case are recorded and properly organized.
  • Prepares reports of activities.
  • Maintains database and video library of all material according to prescribed policies and procedures.
  • Acts as a resource person to sworn staff in a workplace setting.
  • Collects and maintains videotapes and related material to assist intelligence gathering agencies.
  • Appears in court and gives expert testimony on forensic video technology and techniques.
  • Prepares and presents documentation and reports relating to evidentiary activities surrounding forensic video technology.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by completion of a Broadcasting Technology, Forensic Technology, Computer Technology or related program from a recognized post-secondary institute.
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in a law enforcement environment will be considered an asset.
  • Completion of willingness to complete the Forensic Video Analysis Certification is required, including “Basic Forensic Video Analysis and the Law” and “Advanced Forensic Video Analysis and the Law.”
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is $43.77/hour - $49.52/hour (pay grade 25) based on 2024 rates.
