Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW
Reporting to the HR & Relations Unit lead within SPS’ Human Resources, the HR Advisor will play an essential role in providing comprehensive HR support and guidance to both employees and management while ensuring compliance with labour laws, relevant policies, and collective bargaining agreements. They will be responsible for managing various HR functions including employee relations, leading investigations, collective agreement and policy interpretation, and recruitment. The HR Advisor will partner closely with the HR team, employees, and managers to maintain positive labour relations and foster a productive work environment.
KEY Responsibilities
- Lead/participate in labour management meetings with the union
- Conduct workplace investigations from start to finish and issuance of discipline
- Act as an investigator for Respectful Workplace complaints
- Lead/support managers through performance and attend management processes
- Management of grievances and settlements agreements
- Support and work collaboratively with abilities management team on employee files
- Lead key recruitments
The successful candidate will be highly organized and solutions-focused with an ability to think critically and efficiently. The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, team members, the union and key stakeholders. They will have a proven ability to research, understand, and synthesize data with strong attention to detail. The ability to work independently, take initiative and exercise good judgment is required for this role.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm (PST). Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS
- An undergraduate degree in Human Resources or a related field.
- A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience within a unionized public sector environment.
- Experience with labour relations.
- A CPHR designation is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.
This position is Exempt. The salary range for this position is $104,807 - $123,302 (Pay Band P2) based on 2024 Rates. Junior candidates may be considered at a salary range of $87,201 - $102,589 (Pay Band P1).
