POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) is offering an exciting opportunity for an IT Technical Lead to join our growing Corporate Services Bureau. This position is unionized and is represented by CUPE Local 402.
In this role, you will provide technical direction and leadership for strategic projects, processes, systems, and functional areas. Your responsibilities will include leading the infrastructure or applications environment build, configuration, and integration while ensuring that project teams adhere to quality control standards.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hr/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the IT Infrastructure and Operations Manager, the incumbent will:
- Work with project managers to define project scope, deliverables, priorities, and schedules.
- Design and deliver IT solutions in collaboration with project teams and stakeholders.
- Act as a technical liaison between business units, vendors, and IT Operations resources.
- Lead the development of technical design, configuration, sustainment, and other operations & maintenance documentation.
- Lead the implementation of new technologies, including testing and troubleshooting.
- Own and lead the planning and implementation of Operational initiatives such as versioning and stewardship.
- Conduct meetings to assess options and recommend changes as required.
- Provide technical expertise and consultation to IT stakeholder groups.
- Evaluate and assess risks and improve architectural approaches, and ensure compliance with IT Security policies and guidelines
- Adapt and apply procedures to address and resolve unusual problems.
- Ensure the smooth transition of new technologies to operational teams by ensuring operational handover procedures have been completed and training conducted.
- Provide subject matter expertise to operational teams for maintaining system operations and troubleshooting during outages.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of enterprise business applications integrations, web applications, database technology, cloud, security, and mobile and web technologies.
- Knowledge of software development lifecycle.
- Strong communication skills, efficiency, thoroughness, initiative.
- Ability to build relationships that contribute to team cohesion and collaboration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills.
- Effective management of complex tasks under tight deadlines are essential.
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS
- The successful incumbent will have a two-year Diploma in Information Systems
- A minimum of six years in an IT implementation role
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.

- The salary range for this position is $55.86/hour - $63.35/hour (pay grade 31) based on 2024 rates.
