POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Network Analyst 2 to join our Information Management and Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. This position will be critical as Surrey Police Service builds out the information technology infrastructure and support systems to better connect and protect our police officers through our state-of-the-art IT systems and solutions, on our road to police of jurisdiction.
Reporting to the Infrastructure and Operations Manager, the Network Analyst will be part of a collaborative and responsive IT team responsible for providing technical expertise and guidance in the management of our network including but not limited to testing, analyzing, installing, maintaining, and supporting networks. Our successful candidate will also perform technical analyses of software, hardware, and transmission facilities using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient network operations. With a keen eye for detail, the Network Analyst monitors data traffic and controls network resource performance to ensure high quality transmission.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical expertise in the management of network including but not limited to testing, analysing, installing, maintaining and supporting networks.
- Performs technical analyses of software, hardware and transmission facilities using various diagnostic tools in support of efficient network operations.
- Completes work assignments and reacts to situations and problems by taking action and balancing priorities.
- Functions as a specialist within a team environment by providing information related to area of expertise.
- Supports the budgeting process by estimating and monitoring resources required for project phases as needed.
- Assists other staff in performing their duties.
- Performs any other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of computers, computer programming, applications and IT infrastructure.
- Knowledge of one or more complex essential IT infrastructure components (e.g. relational database system, network operating system, wide area network).
- Knowledge of IT security issues.
- Knowledge of overall strategic direction of functional area within section and annual operating plans for the section.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as well as establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to plan and organize skills to meet deadlines and achieve objectives of the work group.
- Ability to build rapport with customers to understand their current and changing business needs.
- Ability to anticipate problems, analyze situations, identify resolutions and make recommendations.
- Ability to apply a work around, improvise or conduct a root cause analysis.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in a related field from a recognized institution.
- Two years related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.

- The salary range is $47.52/hour - $53.84/hour (pay grade 27) based on 2024 rates.
