POSITION OVERVIEW
SPS has an exciting opportunity for two Police Electronics Specialist 2 to join the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Sergeant, PRIME Application Unit, the incumbent will perform a broad range of administrative support duties, many of which are confidential in nature. The incumbent will assist with installations and configuration of radio requirement and related end point electronics. They will also be recommending, designing, testing and implementing upgrades and improvements. This position also researches and analyzes new related equipment and technologies to meet business needs and to support development of processes, standards and guidelines.
Schedule / Hours of Work
The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Completes installations and configuration of equipment and technologies including but not limited to police radios, MWS docking stations, body worn cameras and OCC radio equipment.
- Completes regular maintenance of hardware and related activities.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses and addresses configuration issues related to the work.
- Performs basic programming activities related to the work.
- Assists with procurement of related equipment, technologies, electronics and consumables, places orders for materials.
- Liaises with user departments, IT staff, and external parties as part of implementation, updating, maintenance and device troubleshooting processes.
- Assesses completion of services from external parties and ensures end-point devices are functioning safely and effectively.
- Serves as point of contact for issues related to police vehicle technology fit-up and other equipment issues.
- Provides guidance and prepares and delivers training related to the work.
- Performs any other duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of electronics, equipment, infrastructure and technologies related to the work.
- Knowledge of supporting electronics and related equipment and communications infrastructure solutions in a technical capacity.
- Knowledge of electronic test tools including but not limited to multi-meters, spectrum/RF analyzers, communication protocol analyzers, power meters and signal generators.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to advise clients in a responsive and professional manner and explains and presents technical information in an understandable manner.
- Ability to recommend and implement improvements to processes and procedures.
- Ability to organize work and prioritize and execute tasks to meet project deadlines.
- Ability to conduct research into system issues and products.
- Ability to build rapport with customers to understand and anticipate their new and changing business needs.
- Ability to apply a work around, improvise and conduct root cause analysis.
- Ability to work with a strong customer service orientation.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful incumbent will have:
- Degree in a related field from a recognized institution plus three years related experience or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS, which includes a mandatory polygraph examination.
This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402. The salary range for this position is $47.52/hour -$53.84/hour (pay grade 27) based on 2024 Rates.
