Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024, SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Regular Full-Time Records Clerk 3 to join our Information Management and Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Records Team Manager, the incumbent performs intermediate data entry work utilizing Surrey Police Service (SPS) and other policing agency electronic data systems.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs data collection, entry, and retrieval using SPS electronic data systems.
  • Reviews scores, forwards general occurrences to the appropriate sections and/or concludes files based on predetermined criteria.
  • Provides information from files to SPS staff, public, and outside agencies.
  • Inputs accurate information and details from files.
  • Screens and/or refers requests to the appropriate SPS staff or agency.
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Understands and effectively carries out oral and written instructions.
  • Exercises considerable independence of judgment and action within specified guidelines.
  • Works both in a team setting and independently under limited supervision.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with staff and other agencies.
  • Demonstrates organization and time management skills.
  • Pays attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates accurate keyboarding skills.
  • Maintains confidentiality in dealing with sensitive information.
  • Sound knowledge of SPS electronic data systems.
  • Basic knowledge of the Uniform Crime Reporting code system applicable to the Criminal Code of Canada and other applicable federal and provincial statutes enforced by SPS.
  • Some knowledge of filing, indexing methods, and record keeping.
  • Considerable knowledge of SPS operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Relevant level of security clearance.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by in-house courses relevant to the SPS records system currently in use, plus two years relevant experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Typing speed of 45 wpm
  • All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police clearance throughout their employment with SPS. This role also requires RCMP Reliability Status (security clearance).

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is $30.12 to $31.97 (pay grade 12) based on 2024 rates.
