POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Court Liaison Clerk to join our Information Management & Technology Division, within the Corporate Services Bureau. Reporting to the Court Services Manager and under the supervision of the Court Liaison Supervisor, the incumbent will perform administrative and clerical work involved in the processing of court documents and related materials.

Schedule / Hours of Work

The anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews and screens reports, and documents to crown counsel for completeness of information. Processes court dispositions.
  • Processes fingerprints, trial notifications and identifications.
  • Researches, prepares, processes, and maintains files, records, reports, and correspondence.
  • Maintains close liaison with Surrey Police Service (SPS) personnel, court officials, and others.
  • Performs computer data entry.
  • Responds to inquiries by phone and in person.
  • Assists other staff in performing their duties.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with staff, court officials, and others.
  • Ability to interpret and explain various policies, procedures, and relevant legislation.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret reports and records.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment and discretion.
  • Thorough knowledge of SPS and court systems, procedures, records, documentation, and instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant legislation, bylaws rules, regulations, policies, and procedures at the local, provincial, and federal levels of government.
  • Knowledge of computer office applications.
  • Knowledge of SPS policies, procedures, and standards. Knowledge of applicable safety regulations.
  • Physical strength, stamina, and coordination to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Relevant level of security clearance.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by related training and experience.
  • Considerable years of experience in court, police, and municipal procedures.
  • Typing speed of 50 wpm
  • SPS CLEARANCE All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.
  • SPS AND RCMP CLEARANCE All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police clearance throughout their employment with SPS. This role also requires RCMP Reliability Status (security clearance).

  • This is a unionized position, represented by CUPE 402.
  • The salary range is$35.71/hour to $38.98/hour (pay grade 19) based on 2024 rates.
