Surrey Police
Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. On November 29, 2024,
SPS became the police of jurisdiction, and assumed responsibility and command
for policing and law enforcement in Surrey. SPS is working to redefine policing

POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey
Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Regular Full Time Service Writer to join our Business and Infrastructure Section, within the Corporate Services Bureau.
Reporting to the Fleet Manager or designate, the position is responsible for
technical and administrative work in coordinating and scheduling vehicle
repairs and services in the garage using a computerized vehicle maintenance
management system and performing minor repairs and adjustments. Independence of
judgment and action is exercised within established policies and
procedures. Office and garage
environment. Physical work in yard or work site in all types of weather
conditions.
Schedule / Hours of Work
This is an on-site
position and the anticipated schedule for this position is 8 hours per
day and 40 hours per week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based
on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
·
Schedules and
coordinates vehicle repairs and services using a computerized maintenance
management system.
·
Updates,
inputs and retrieves information on all vehicles.
·
Assesses and
prioritizes requests.
·
Investigates
mechanical problems and complaints.
·
Provides
detailed explanations in regards to the work.
·
Performs minor
repairs and adjustments to vehicles and equipment.
·
Receives,
reviews and processes vehicle daily pre trip forms and equipment condition
reports for deficiencies and repair requests.
·
Generates work
orders and liaises with staff and outside agencies in relation to the work.
·
Monitors
maintenance and inspection programs.
·
Obtains quotes
for repairs and parts.
·
Processes
invoices, issues purchase requisitions and approves purchasing orders.
·
Liaises with
and responds to inquiries from vendors, customers and staff.
·
Processes
employee timesheets.
·
Prepares a
variety of reports related to operations.
·
Prepares and
maintains schedules, records, files and documentation related to the work.
·
Assists other
staff in performing their duties.
·
Performs
related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
·
Completion of related post-secondary courses from a
recognized institution.
·
Minimum of two years related experience including
experience in a Fleet Services environment.
·
Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License with a safe driving
record.
·
An equivalent combination of education and experience
may be considered.
·
All
applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance
throughout their employment with SPS, which includes
a mandatory polygraph examination.

The compensation range is $39.86 per
hour (based on 2024 rates).
