POSITION OVERVIEW
Surrey Police Service has an exciting opportunity for a Systems Analyst 1 (Telephony) to join our Corporate Services Bureau to provide systems analysis with a focus on supporting SPS’s communication and telephony systems. Reporting to our IT Infrastructure and Operations Manager, our incumbent will be responsible for supporting a variety of communication systems, both wired and wireless technology and cloud-based VoIP, with responsibilities including: performing workstation and server administration set up; performing basic programming activities; performing data back-ups and recoveries and maintaining technical documentation.
Schedule / Hours of Work
This is an on-site position and the anticipated schedule for this position is 35 hrs/week. Please note, the hours are subject to change based on operational needs and adherence to the Collective Agreement.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Documents the enterprise systems designed in accordance with established standards.
- Places orders for materials from pre-approved vendors to complete projects.
- Liaises with user departments, other information technology (IT) staff, and vendors during the implementation of a new system.
- Performs software installations and upgrades to operating systems and layered software packages.
- Assesses that work is completed accurately and systems are functioning properly.
- Assists in the analysis of systems and the preparation of recommended solutions for meeting users' requirements.
- Maintains systems, responds to incident tickets, and troubleshoots systems issues.
- Assists other staff in performing their duties.
- Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of specialized programming tools and languages, or technical procedures.
- Knowledge of several business applications from a business process perspective.
- Knowledge of infrastructure related to the work including but not limited to VoIP, telecom media gateways and trunks, cellular wireless, AV multiplexers and controllers.
- Knowledge of IT security issues.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to build rapport with customers to understand their new and changing IT business needs.
- Ability to recommend when to apply a work around, improvise, or conduct a root cause analysis.
- Ability to work with a strong customer service orientation
APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree in a related field from a recognized institution plus one-year related experience
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Candidates with experience with VoIP, standard PBX voice (example: Nortel, Avaya), SIP trunking will be given preference.
- All applicants must obtain and maintain the required police security clearance throughout their employment with SPS.

- The salary range is $43.77/hour - $49.52/hour (pay grade 25) based on 2024 rates.
