Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Surrey Police Service is growing rapidly and has an exciting opportunity for a Graphic Designer 2 to join our Communications team. This position is responsible for the design and preparation of graphic artwork projects and templates for use in the promotion and day to day work of the organization. The Graphic Designer 2 provides direct support for multi-channel communications and marketing campaigns, in alignment with the SPS brand.

Reporting to the Digital Communications Manager in the Office of the Chief Constable, the incumbent will:

  • Develop graphic concepts for digital and print for a wide variety of promotional and communications projects.
  • Provide a broad array of graphic design solutions, from conceptualization to finished product, while adhering to graphic and brand standards.
  • Develop specifications for graphic design and printing projects.
  • Design and prepare artwork from concept stage to camera-ready layout.
  • Play the lead role in the development of templates and graphic design of the Service's promotional materials.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with sworn and non-sworn employees, vendors, and other key stakeholders.
  • Oversee work performed by contracted agencies.
  • Provide advice and guidance to junior staff in a proactive manner.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will be an effective communicator with strong leadership and presentation skills and be a strong team player that values collaborative relationships. The incumbent will also be a self-starter who can work independently to meet deadlines. The incumbent must possess knowledge and have experience working with design standards, branding, commercial printing and pre-press techniques, printing processes and advanced photo reproductive techniques, and knowledge of current practices and methods in graphic arts media and layouts including work with infographics.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus a post-secondary education from a recognized graphic design institute and 5 years of graphic design experience. Experience includes:
    • experience in the following programs including but not limited to InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop;
    • experience in all areas of graphic design, including the development of storyboards, thumbnails, conceptual drawings, and infographics.
  • The successful candidate will be able to obtain and maintain the required level of police security clearance.

This position is unionized, represented by CUPE Local 402. The salary range for this position is $40.60/hour -$45.61/hour (pay grade 23) based on 2024 Rates.
