Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Database Analyst 3 to join our Support Services Bureau.  The Database Analyst 3 will assist in the development and maintenance of databases, creation of data models for the organization including entity relationship diagrams, identification, and creation of application-specific user views of the data, along with logical access to the various data elements.

Reporting to the Application Services Manager of the Information Technology team in the Support Services Bureau, the incumbent will:

  • Access and allocate database resources for optimum configuration and performance.
  • Perform backups and recovery.
  • Configure database parameters and prototype designs against logical data models, defining data repository requirements, data dictionaries, and warehousing requirements.
  • Support multiple services and databases of medium to high complexity with multiple concurrent users, ensuring control, integrity, and accessibility of data.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned.

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, including an ability to write IT procedures, reports, and documenting business processes and policies. The candidate will provide oversight, communicate work procedures, and may mentor junior IT employees as needed. In addition, the candidate will be highly organized and solutions-focused with an ability to think critically and efficiently. The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with users, team members, and key stakeholders.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field by a recognized institution plus four years related experience or, an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience. Related experience includes:
    • experience with writing and optimizing complex SQL queries;
    • experience with database schema design;
    • experience with complex IT infrastructure components (i.e., relational database system, network operating system, wide area network)
  • Industry based technical certifications (i.e., ITIL) is considered an asset.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain the required level of police security clearance.

This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402. The salary range for this position is $55.86/hour -$63.35/hour (pay grade 31) based on 2024 Rates.
