Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Network Analyst 3 to join our Support Services Bureau. Performing a critical role in leading the ongoing development and sustainment of our IT networking infrastructure, the successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of current networking technologies and trends with in-depth knowledge of Cisco network technologies including switches, QoS, Wi-Fi and VoIP. Drawing on experience to develop standards and best practices, they will be proficient in network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Cisco DNA Center, Wireshark, SolarWinds). Focus areas include equipment evaluation and provisioning, SOP development, network design, performance monitoring and tuning, and working with various IT teams and vendors to maintain overall Infrastructure health in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.

Reporting to the IT Infrastructure and Operations Manager, the incumbent will:

  • Provide operational support for a variety of communication systems including wired and wireless technologies.
  • Respond to and resolve communications issues, including hardware failures, network outages, and system errors.
  • Research, evaluate, and implement new technologies and diagnostic tools.
  • Provide troubleshooting support and guidance to IT staff and end-users.
  • Work with various stakeholders to recommend, design, testing, and implement system upgrades and improvements to existing systems and processes.
  • Analyze data and metrics to identify bottlenecks, vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement.
  • Implement and enforce security measures and best practices to protect the organization from threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Perform monitoring and maintenance activities in accordance with established IT policies and procedures.
  • Preparing and maintaining technical and user documentation including system documentation and SOPs required to support police operations.
  • Act as a resource and escalation point for junior staff.

Effective communication, both verbal and written, will be key as this position will be responsible for responding to clients, documenting policies and procedures, and delivering presentations with recommendations on risk mitigation strategies and advancing our technological footprint. Finally, our candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with users, team members, and key stakeholders.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or related field by a recognized institution plus four years related experience or, an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

*Candidates with CCN/CCNP certification and experience with Microsoft Azure networking components (VNets, Peering, NSGs, VPN Gateways, and ExpressRoute) will be given preference.

This position is unionized represented by CUPE Local 402. The salary range for this position is $55.86/hour -$63.35/hour (pay grade 31) based on 2024 Rates.
