Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. On November 29, 2024, SPS will become the police of jurisdiction, assuming responsibility for policing and law enforcement in Surrey.

POSITION OVERVIEW:  

Reporting to the HRIS and Administrative Services Manager in the Support Services Bureau, the HR Advisor will play an essential role in providing comprehensive HR support and guidance to both employees and management while ensuring compliance with labour laws, relevant policies, and collective bargaining agreements. They will be responsible for managing various HR functions including employee relations, leading investigations, collective agreement and policy interpretation, and recruitment. The HR Advisor will partner closely with the HR team, employees, and managers to maintain positive labour relations and foster a productive work environment.

The successful candidate will be highly organized and solutions-focused with an ability to think critically and efficiently. The candidate will thrive in a fast-paced and collaborative environment with an ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with clients, team members, the union and key stakeholders. They will have a proven ability to research, understand, and synthesize data with strong attention to detail. The ability to work independently, take initiative and exercise good judgment is required for this role.

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful candidate will have a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience within a unionized public sector environment including experience in labour relations, with an undergraduate degree in Human Resources or a related field. A CPHR designation is preferred. An equivalent combination of experience and education may be considered.

The salary range for this position is $104,807 - $123,302 (Pay Band P2) based on 2024 Rates. Junior candidates may be considered at a salary range of $87,201 - $102,589 (Pay Band P1).

Internal applicants under consideration must maintain the required standards of police security clearance throughout employment with SPS.
