Surrey Police Service (SPS) is Surrey’s new municipal police agency. The transition from the RCMP to SPS is well underway and SPS has spent the past three years building a local, modern, accountable police service for Surrey residents. POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

Surrey Police Service (SPS) has an exciting opportunity for a Timekeeping/Payroll Specialist to join our dynamic team reporting to the Payroll Manager as part of the Financial Services Section team. This is a specialized, complex clerical position responsible for processing all aspects of time records in support of payroll in a timely, accurate and efficient manner. Considerable responsibility and independence of action are exercised, working with evolving guidelines. The key focus is on timesheet accuracy, applying timekeeping rules from multiple collective agreements, and therefore ensuring pay practice compliance.

 

This position delivers timekeeping services and supports other timekeepers in collecting and recording SPS payroll information on a bi-weekly basis. Responsibilities include assisting in establishing workflows and operating procedures; summary reporting; reconciling time claims to collective agreement and established pay practices; responding to questions from employees and supervisors; maintaining accurate timekeeping records; administering policies; auditing and correcting payroll for conformity with legislation, regulations, agreements and procedures; working on the implementation and execution of related system; making recommendations for improvements; and performing other related duties as assigned.

 

The successful candidate will have good organization and time management skills, knowledge of timekeeping, current payroll practices and related systems, related software, and experience working with collective agreements, preferably in a policing environment. Key abilities include working in a team environment, providing advice and direction to others, building and maintaining effective working relationships with team members and stakeholders, and succeeding under the pressure of deadlines. 

 

APPLICANT QUALIFICATIONS:

 

Completion of grade 12, supplemented by payroll and accounting courses equivalent to Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) courses. Minimum 5 years of recent payroll experience in a complex unionized workforce, the last three years being in positions of complexity and responsibility or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position is unionized and represented by CUPE Local 402. The salary range for this position is $35.71/hour -$38.98/hour (pay grade 19) based on 2024 Rates.
